After rumors, we now have proof that Samsung is increasing the RAM amount on its flagships next year, at least on the Plus model. The Galaxy S24+ has just surfaced on Geekbench with 12GB of RAM. This year’s Plus model is only available in an 8GB variant.
Galaxy S24+ confirmed to come with a 12GB RAM option
Samsung has been releasing three flagship smartphones under the Galaxy S series since 2019. The phones vary in a lot of ways, including screen size, cameras, RAM, storage, battery, and more. It usually limits the smaller two models to 8GB of RAM while offering 12GB of RAM on the Ultra model (the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy S21 Ultra even had a 16GB RAM variant).
Earlier this year, rumors surfaced that the Korean firm is planning to reintroduce a 16GB RAM option for the Galaxy S24 Ultra next year. The rumors also said that Samsung will offer the base Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ with 12GB of RAM options. However, benchmark listings only showed the former with 12GB of RAM and the latter with 8GB of RAM. That’s finally changing today.
The Korean version of the Galaxy S24+ (model number SM-S926N) popped up on Geekbench confirming a 12GB RAM variant. The phone is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 2400 chipset. It scored 2,044 in single-core tests and 6,406 points in multi-core tests. These scores aren’t a true measure of a phone’s performance, though. We recently saw the Exynos 2400 outperforming the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in one listing and getting a beating on the other.
Note that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will power the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ in the US, China, and a few other markets. It will also power the Galaxy S24 Ultra globally. This is why everyone is interested in seeing how the two chips stack up against each other. Both are 4nm SoCs but they have a few key differences. Most notably, Samsung’s chip has a deca-core (ten cores) CPU setup, while the Snapdragon has eight cores.
Samsung is confident of the Exynos 2400
Exynos processors have historically performed worse than competing Snapdragon solutions. They struggle in power efficiency and thermal management, which effectively takes a toll on overall performance. However, Samsung is confident that the Exynos 2400 can put up a good fight to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It particularly has high hopes for the chip’s GPU. Time will tell whether the new Exynos solution can live up to the expectations. The Galaxy S24 series arrives in January 2024.
