WWDC 2024: Apple's Massive Software Revolution Begins June 10th

After Google announced its dates for Google I/O a couple of weeks ago, the attention turned to Apple for its developer conference. And today, we got those dates. Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) will take place from June 10 through June 14. WWDC will still be taking place online and available to all developers at no cost.

Apple’s WWDC will kick off with a keynote on June 10 at 10 AM PT, which will see Apple announce updates to all of its software. This includes iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, macOS, watchOS, and visionOS. There could also be some hardware announced at WWDC; last year, the company announced the MacBook Air 15-inch, as well as the Mac Studio and Mac Pro with new M2 Ultra chipsets. The Vision Pro was also announced; however, that did not go on sale until January 2024.

iOS 18 is rumored to be a massive upgrade this year

iOS 18 is set to be one of the most significant upgrades to the iPhone in many, many years. Perhaps more significant than iOS 7 was well over a decade ago. There are rumors that iOS 18 will feature a brand-new home screen. Now, it’s tough to know what precisely that actually means right now. But I wouldn’t bet on Apple allowing you to move your icons wherever you want.

Apple is also set to add a ton of AI into all of its products. In fact, an analyst said on Monday that WWDC will see Apple announcing an AI App Store. It’s tough to say what precisely that actually means, but it could be something similar to what ChatGPT currently has with its custom GPT models that anyone can build.

Of course, we cannot forget that Apple is reportedly partnering with Google for AI this year. Meaning that Google’s Gemini AI models will be part of the iPhone. That is rather interesting, considering it will likely power the same features we’ve seen on Android phones that have launched recently like the Galaxy S24 series.

And that’s just iOS 18 (and a little bit of iPadOS 18), never mind the other operating systems that are getting updated this year. Expect to hear a lot about AI from Apple, without Apple ever saying the words “AI” or “Artificial Intelligence”. Remember, with the Vision Pro announcement, Apple never mentioned VR nor AR.
