Android 15 could increase your standby time by 3 hours

Android 15 AM AH 04

The latest Android 15 beta has launched, and we’re finding out more of what Google has planned for it. According to a new report, Android 15 could actually increase your phone standby time by up to three hours.

Everyone hates waking up in the morning to find that their phone somehow drained 10% of its battery overnight. Even when you’re not using your phone, it’s using the battery, and it can be rather annoying. This is why standby time is one of the most important things to consider when getting a phone.

In order to help standby time, Google introduced a feature called Doze mode. This is not a new feature, as the company unveiled it back when Android 6.0 Marshmallow launched in 2015. Basically, when your phone enters this mode, the software restricts certain apps and functions from operating in the background. This helps greatly increase battery longevity.

Obviously, when we’re talking about battery longevity, results will vary depending on the device and usage. So, your results may not be identical to another person’s results. In any case, Google told Android Authority that Android 15 will put your phone into Doze mode 50% quicker than before.

This may seem like a small change, but Google is confident that it will greatly increase your standby time. It says that it could increase a phone’s battery longevity by up to three hours depending on the device. It’s a neat feature, and it will hopefully keep some phones in people’s hands for longer before being tossed out.

Android 15 will also bring real-time call scam detection

During Google I/O, the company announced that Gemini will be able to flag suspicious phone calls while they’re happening. This is one of the biggest AI announcements of Google I/O. Google is great at blocking spam calls, but some do slip through the cracks.

For those times when a scam call slips through, Gemini will actually listen in on the call and flag it if it seems that it is a scam call. This feature will be powered by Gemini Nano, which means that all of the computation will be done on-device. So, you won’t have to worry about Google uploading audio from your phone calls to be processed. This is a great feature for mitigating scam calls
