The Android security update for August 2024 has started rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy S22 series. The update has made a debut in the US, as it’s rolling out to carrier-locked variants as we speak. The rollout will spread to unlocked models soon if it hasn’t already by the time you read this.

The August 2024 Android security update is rolling out to the Galaxy S22 series

The build numbers S901USQS6EXG8, S906USQS6EXG8, and S908USQS6EXG8 were spotted for the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra, respectively.

Your phone will let you know once the update is available, of course. You can always manually check if you’d like. All you have to do is open Settings, navigate to the Software update menu, and tap the Download and install option.

Do note that this update is rolling out over the air, and it’s rolling out in stages. In other words, the update did start rolling out, but it may take a while before your phone gets it.

One thing to note is that this update does not bring One UI 6.1.1 along with it. It’s expected to start rolling out to eligible phones at some point this month, but the Galaxy S22 may have to wait a bit in order to get it.

This update fixes 50 security vulnerabilities

What about this update, though? Well, it doesn’t bring any new features. It does, however, boost the security. The August 2024 security patch fixes 50 security loopholes in Android OS and Samsung’s One UI. One of those is a critical vulnerability.

We will have to wait for One UI 6.1.1 in order to see something other than a security patch, it seems. The Galaxy S22 will be limited in terms of new features either way, as the Galaxy S24 and S23 series smartphones are newer. It remains to be seen how many of the upcoming features will Samsung make available for the Galaxy S22 series.
