World's first tri-fold smartphone will launch on September 10

Huawei tri fold smartphone prototype 1

The world’s first tri-fold smartphone will launch on September 10. This smartphone is coming from Huawei, of course, as was confirmed last month. We’ve already seen that phone in Richard Yu’s hands, both in unfolded and folded forms.

The world’s first tri-fold smartphone is coming from Huawei on September 10

Huawei has confirmed via social media in China that the device is coming on September 10. It’s coming right after IFA in Berlin, and one day after the iPhone 16 series launch.

The press event will kick off at 2:30 PM in China, which translates to 8:30 AM CET / 7:30 AM BST / 2:30 AM EST / 11:30 PM PST (the previous day). The event will be in Chinese and will be hosted in China.

The chances of this smartphone making it to markets outside of China are not good. The phone is rumored to be extremely expensive, and everything points to the fact that Huawei will keep it in its home market for now.

Huawei is not expected to make many units, though

This is, after all, the very first device of its kind. The company is also not expected to make a lot of units of this tri-fold handset. We do know for a fact it will be actually available to purchase, though, this is not a concept phone or anything of the sort.

TECNO did show off its concept tri-fold handset, while Samsung and OPPO are also said to be working on their iterations of the device. Huawei will be first to cross the finish line, though.

This smartphone doesn’t seem to be that thick when folded, as Richard Yu unintentionally showed us. It remains to be seen how thin will it be, though, especially compared to regular foldable smartphones.

Ross Young, a well-known display analyst, also confirmed that the phone will include a 10-inch display. That display will be available when the device is fully unfolded, of course.
