Google is working on AI that can help you in your life. This mostly consists of tools designed to create and dig up content. However, the company wants to make AI that’s a bit more active, and Google accidentally gave us a sneak peek of this ambition. Google accidentally launched the Jarvis prototype to the Chrome store. Jarvis is a tool that can actually take control of your computer.
The past couple of years have been about making AI smarter. Now, companies are focused on making AI technology more proactive. This means having AI perform tasks on your device on your behalf. For example, Motorola is working on LAMs (Large Action Models). These models will be able to perform actions on your phone.
Also, Anthropic is testing a feature that can have the AI take control of your computer. With it, Claude will be able to control the mouse and perform simple tasks. It just won’t be able to access the internet or post on social media.
Google accidentally launched Jarvis
Mishaps like these happen more often than you’d think. Companies sometimes accidentally launch products or web pages too soon, and this gives us an idea of what they’re working on. According to the report, Google accidentally posted the Jarvis prototype to the Chrome store a few days ago.
The page’s description told us a bit about what this tool is for. The tool will be able to take control of your computer and do simple actions like ordering groceries for you. Since this tool can perform actions on your computer, we’re sure that Google will have some strict safeguards on it. We’re sure that Jarvis won’t be able to access certain sites, and it probably won’t be able to actually buy products without the user’s consent. That’s just speculation, however.
If you want to check out these features for yourself, you won’t be able to. For starters, Google has long taken the prototype down. In fact, the company took it down the same afternoon that it was posted. Even if you installed it, you wouldn’t be able to use it. Google blocked certain permissions, so no one could use it.
At this point, we don’t know when Google will launch this feature. What we know is that, if Google does this right, then it may usher in a new age of AI.
