Google has a solid track record of updating the Gmail app with new features to make it even more useful. Summary cards are one of the handy features within the Gmail app that provides snippets of helpful information at the top of your emails. Now, Google is rolling out updated summary cards for paying and viewing your bills directly from the top of your emails in the Gmail app for Android and iOS.
The Gmail app on Android and iOS lets you pay bills directly from the top of emails
Last year in October, Google announced that it updated summary cards with a new look and action buttons. Those changes impacted the summary cards used for emails related to bills, purchases, travel, and events. Two days after announcing the updated summary cards, Google rolled out the purchase summary cards.
Fast forward to last month, the company also rolled out summary cards for Google Calendar events. Now, Google has announced that it is rolling out summary cards for paying bills in the Gmail app for Android and iOS. In a recent Workspace update post, Google showcased the updated bills summary card, taking an Xfinity bill as an example.
As seen in the image below, you’ll have three options – “Pay bill,” “Remind me,” and “View bill,” when you open an email containing details about bills in the Gmail app. The “Pay bill” and “View bill” options are pretty much straightforward. You can simply tap them and do what they’re intended for. However, choosing the “Remind me” option allows setting a reminder to pay your bills later using Google Tasks.

A new “Happening Soon” section is due for rollout
Apart from summary cards for paying bills, Google last year announced that it was working to add a new “Happening Soon” section to the Gmail app. The company then said that the section will display the most timely updates “without even needing to open individual emails.”
No doubt, Google is gradually adding updated summary cards to the Gmail app. However, there’s no information on when it will add the “Happening Soon” section. All we know for now is that the section will appear on top of your inbox.
