Get ready for the RTX 5090 to cost 2.5x NVIDIA's original quote

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090

Consumers should prepare for a price increase of the RTX 5090 GPU in the coming year, though this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, given that the price of RAM has increased by huge amounts recently. With RAM in shorter supply, it stands to reason that GPUs, and other products that contain RAM, would go up in cost as there’s less RAM to go around. In turn, this would mean less supply for GPU manufacturers, which leads to fewer GPUs on the market, causing the prices of what is available go up.

For consumers looking to build a new gaming PC, or simply upgrade the one they have, this is a dire shift. The NVIDIA RTX 5090 was already a pretty expensive GPU, and that’s just the Founders Edition that NVIDIA sells, which was quoted by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang as coming with a $1,999 price tag. Partner GPUs are much more than that. With some going over $3,500.

NVIDIA could be planning to increase the price of the RTX 5090 to over $5,000

While there’s no confirmation right now on the exact price, a new report from Wccftech suggests that NVIDIA could be planning to increase the price of the RTX 5090 GPU to over $5,000. That would be an increase that’s 2.5x as much as the original $1,999 price for a Founders Edition card. At that price, PC gamers wanting to get the most powerful GPU on the market would potentially be priced out.

If the RTX 5090 goes up, it’s also likely that the other GPUs will also. NVIDIA is also reportedly looking to decrease the production of the RTX 5060 Ti and the RTX 5070 Ti in 2026, which is likely to cause available stock go up for those cards as well.

And it’s not just NVIDIA. AMD is also reportedly planning higher prices for its GPUs. AMD is said to be starting with gradual price increases in January, while NVIDIA will be starting to increase prices in February. These price increases are likely to continue throughout the year.
