In a move that signals its serious AI push, Apple has hired Lilian Rincon, the executive responsible for Google’s shopping experience. The executive spent a decade at Google overseeing its shopping and Assistant products. Lilian will now serve as vice president of product marketing of AI, reporting to marketing chief Greg “Joz” Joswiak.
Apple hires a Google executive in Siri AI push
The hiring is a major win, given Lilian’s strong track record at Google. The executive previously worked on Google Assistant and later led product management for Google Shopping. The move also comes at a time as Apple, behind the scenes, is readying an improved version of Siri. The revamped Siri is built with technology from Alphabet’s Gemini AI model. We might get a glimpse of this at the upcoming WWDC 2026, which will run from June 8 to 12.
Reports point out that the new version of the Siri chatbot will integrate directly into Apple’s software. The new approach reportedly focuses on a brand new design and better usability. The deeper integration could allow it to use personal data, perform in-app actions, search the web, summarize information, and much more. Apple is reportedly giving Siri the ability to view on-screen content and adjust device features and settings.
New Siri is coming
Besides these, a standalone Siri app is also in the mix, which will work as a hub for all the past conversations with it. This new interface will reportedly allow users to revisit, search, and manage interactions. Besides the new Siri abilities, Apple is reportedly also testing a new interface for Siri that resides within the Dynamic Island.
The company is also reportedly working to replace its “Spotlight” search function with an AI-powered Siri. The updated interface will still include “Siri Suggestions” showing app shortcuts, upcoming appointments, and AI-powered changes to settings. Though we might get a glimpse of the new Siri at WWDC, a full rollout might be a while.
