Google Photos is getting another AI feature, and users will like this one

AH Google Photos Editing Tools

Google Photos already lets you edit quite a bit with AI, and soon that will include the capability to edit a photo’s metadata. If you’re not sure what metadata is, it’s all those little details about the image that are created when you take a photo, like the time and date, what type of device took the photo, what the resolution is, etc., and it’s there for every photo. You can check the metadata on your Google Photos images rather easily, too. Just tap on an image, then tap the three dots button in the top right corner, and then on “about,” which will show you all the details of that photo.

Right now it’s not possible to edit the metadata using AI, but it appears as if Google has been working on making this a reality. The feature is not yet live but it seems like Google is close to rolling it out. So, it may be coming in a near-future update. Exactly when is still unclear, though.

Google Photos will let you use AI to edit image metadata through the Ask button

If you’re wondering how you can use AI to edit photo metadata, it’ll be done through the new Ask button that sits at the far right of the tab buttons at the bottom of the UI. You can already use this button to search for photos and organize them.

As noted by Android Authority, you’ll be able to use the Ask button to do things like edit the timestamp of images, as well update the location, and even generate a caption for that image. When the feature goes live, users will reportedly be met with a tooltip in the app informing them of the feature’s new availability.

Upon that happening, users can tap on the Ask button and either speak or type what they want changed. The AI could then ask users a followup question about the change, and then users could respond back with their answers.
