As expected, Samsung is one of the main names at CES 2026. While the company isn’t bringing new phones, it is announcing significant developments in display technology. In the age of AI, manufacturers are focusing on being among the first to launch “AI hardware.” These types of devices require high-quality interaction and visualization capabilities. With that in mind, Samsung Display is presenting how OLED panels might function as the primary interface for AI-driven devices, ranging from mobile classroom assistants to specialized automotive hardware.

The AI OLED Robot The “AI OLED Bot” is one of the main ideas on display. This is a small, portable unit made for places like college campuses. It has a 13.4-inch circular OLED screen that acts as a communication center. OLED displays are perfect for these products because they can be made in a variety of shapes. These panels can be made in curved or spherical shapes, which is not possible with regular LCDs. In real life, this lets the bot show schedules or tasks in places where talking on the phone isn’t the best way to do it.

The company is also experimenting with “AI Mood Lamps” and retro-styled audio interfaces. These prototypes use circular displays to provide visual feedback for music recommendations, moving away from the standard rectangular screens found on most smart speakers.

Testing durability and temperature resistance

Samsung also boasted about the resilience of its display technologies. To address concerns regarding the fragility of foldable panels, the company is using a robotic arm to launch basketballs at a backboard made of 18 foldable OLED screens.

Beyond physical impact, there’s a focus on environmental performance. Samsung is demonstrating automotive OLEDs operating inside a refrigerator at -20°C. This test shows that, while LCD response times often slow down significantly in freezing temperatures—potentially causing a delay in safety information—OLED panels maintain a response time of 0.2 milliseconds. For autonomous or high-speed driving in cold climates, this level of consistency is better.

Efficiency for laptops

For the laptop market, there’s a new “UT One” technology. The latter introduces a panel that is 30% thinner and lighter than previous dual-glass versions. Samsung achieved this by using a glass substrate on the bottom combined with thin organic and inorganic films on top. This reduction in weight and thickness also brings a variable refresh rate that can drop as low as 1Hz. The tech aims at reducing power consumption to preserve battery life for AI-heavy tasks.

Advancements in brightness and pixel density

There have also been improvements in the high-end TV and wearable tech markets. Samsung’s new 2026 QD-OLED TV model can get as bright as 4,500 nits. This is great for making things easier to see in bright rooms. At the same time, the company is showing off a 1.4-inch micro-display for VR headsets. Even though it’s small, it has a pixel density of 5,000 PPI, which means it can fit a lot more detail into a small space than current consumer-grade headsets.
