Portable projectors often face a common enemy: a little bit of light. For anyone who has tried to watch a movie in a room that isn’t pitch black, the struggle with washed-out colors is real. Ahead of CES 2026, Samsung has unveiled the Freestyle+, a third-generation portable projector that aims to solve the brightness dilemma while making setup almost non-existent.
Samsung’s new Freestyle Plus portable projector doesn’t need darkness
The most immediate upgrade is the jump to 430 ISO lumens. While that might sound like technical jargon, it essentially means the device is nearly twice as bright as its predecessor. This extra power allows the projector to maintain bold colors and visible images even in rooms with ambient light. It keeps the iconic 1080p cylindrical design and the 180-degree flexibility that lets you beam a movie onto the ceiling. However, the internals of the projector are significantly smarter.
Samsung is leaning heavily into AI with a suite of features called “AI OptiScreen.” The goal is to let users “point and play” without spending ten minutes fiddling with settings. A new feature called 3D Auto Keystone doesn’t just fix tilted images on flat walls but can actually correct distortion on uneven surfaces like curtains or corners. If you decide to move the projector mid-movie, real-time focus kicks in instantly to prevent any blurring.
AI OptiScreen: How the freestyle+ calibrates any surface
The device also tackles the “off-white wall” problem. Most people don’t have professional projector screens at home, so the new Wall Calibration feature analyzes the color or pattern of your wall and adjusts the output to ensure colors look accurate. This level of automation suggests that Samsung wants the Freestyle+ to be an appliance you can carry around the house as easily as a Bluetooth speaker.

Speaking of speakers, the unit retains its 360-degree sound system. However, it now supports Q-Symphony to sync with Samsung soundbars for a more immersive experience. On the software side, it runs the latest smart TV interface, including the Gaming Hub for cloud gaming and a new Vision AI Companion. This allows for a more conversational Bixby, letting you ask questions about whatever you are watching.
We are still waiting on an official price tag and a firm release date. In the meantime, Samsung confirmed the Freestyle+ will hit the market in the first half of 2026. We will have to wait for the company’s conference at CES 2026 to find out more details.
