GTA 6 is highly likely to feature an online mode at some point, as GTA Online was highly popular and still has a huge dedicated fan base of players spending time and money with it. Even now, several years later. What’s unclear is when a tentative ‘GTA 6 Online’ would actually launch. Players shouldn’t expect it to be at the same time as the release of GTA 6, which is happening on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X, pending no more delays.
As for the online mode, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive don’t appear to have said anything, definitive or otherwise, about when it would be dropping, let alone that it was actually being developed. Of course, no one expects an online mode for the upcoming game in the franchise to not makes its way to players. That would be a lot of money left on the table for Rockstar and Take-Two. Especially when you look at how popular the original GTA Online still is. The main question is when the new mode will be coming, and it’s potentially sooner rather than later.
GTA 6 Online could launch by December of this year
There haven’t been any confirmations about the online mode yet but a new rumor suggests that the launch is going to follow the game’s release rather closely. GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026. According to The Ghost of Hope on X, GTA 6 Online is rumored to launch within a month of that release date. That would be December 19 at the latest.
That doesn’t really seem too far-fetched. GTA 5 launched on September 17, 2013 for PS3 and Xbox 360. GTA Online launched just a couple of weeks later on October 1. That’s not to say that Rockstar and Take-Two are going to follow the same cadence this time around. It’s food for thought, though.
Speaking about an online mode, GTA 6 could end up with a pretty lively and robust user-generated content pool. So much so that it’s being claimed that it will produce millionaires. It was reported in the beginning of last year that Rockstar wants GTA 6 to be a huge creator platform. So, this follows that detail.
