Tim Cook is officially stepping down as Apple’s CEO. During the recent years of his tenure, Cook had to endure a lot. There was the COVID-19 pandemic. Then Trump took office and became the President of the United States. Under his administration, Cook had to juggle both politics and satisfying customers. That’s a tough job. Now, it looks like Trump has a message for the soon-to-be former Apple CEO.
Trump praises Apple CEO Tim Cook
In a post made on Truth Social, Trump had a message praising the outgoing CEO of Apple. Trump called Cook an “amazing manager and leader.” In particular, Trump seemed to be flattered by Cook’s occasional calls to him for help and advice. He also expressed his surprise (and maybe delight) that Cook had reached out to him and for “kissing his ass.”
According to Trump, “Most people would have paid millions of dollars to a consultant, who I probably would not have known, but who would say that he knew me well. The fees would be paid but the job would not have gotten done. When I got the call I said, wow, it’s Tim Apple (Cook!) calling, how big is that? I was very impressed with myself to have the head of Apple calling to ‘kiss my ass.’”
He goes on to say, “Anyway, Tim Cook had an AMAZING career, almost incomparable, and will go on and continue to do great work for Apple, and whatever else he chooses to work on. Quite simply, Tim Cook is an incredible guy!!!”
He also went as far as to denigrate former Apple CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs, albeit in a backhanded sort of way. “I have always been a big fan of Tim Cook, and likewise, Steve Jobs, but if Steve was not taken from the Planet Earth so young, and ran the company instead of Tim, the company would have done well, but nowhere near as well as it has under Tim.”
Cook’s political dance
Now, most CEOs of mega corporations like Apple have to juggle multiple roles. They have to run the company. But they also have to deal with politicians and the various regulations that are introduced. In Cook’s case, we have to take our hats off to him for safely navigating Apple through the Trump administration’s whims.
When Trump took office for the second term, he introduced tariffs on products imported into the US. This presented a problem for companies like Apple, who typically rely on countries like China. However, Cook somehow managed to smooth things over to ensure that Apple would not take the brunt of the tariffs.
Neither Apple nor Cook has publicly supported the Trump administration’s decisions. However, we think the Apple CEO did a commendable job for at least somewhat keeping the peace.
