The Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max are coming this year with a different periscope telephoto camera than their predecessors, considerably different, actually.
Both the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max will adopt a 200MP periscope telephoto camera, but with a surprising shift
According to a new report, these two phones are coming out in September. Both phones are actually tipped to have the same 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. What’s interesting is that the focal length will be 85mm.
Why is that interesting? Well, the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro had a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto unit with a 115mm focal length. Based on that, the periscope telephoto shooter on the new models will be around 3x-3.5x, not 5x.
If we had to guess, we’d say that Xiaomi will also advertise “lossless” digital zoom, as it will use a 200-megapixel camera this time around. Other companies are doing the same, so why not Xiaomi?
Both of these smartphones are expected to utilize the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro processor. That chip has been talked about plenty in the last couple of months, and it will be a beast, it seems.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro will be considerably smaller
The Xiaomi 18 Pro will likely adopt a 6.3-inch display, much like its predecessor, and a battery capacity of around 7,000mAh. The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, on the flip side, could utilize a 6.9-inch display, slightly narrower bezels, and an even larger battery. Both will use a silicon-carbon battery, though, of course.
As a reminder, neither the Xiaomi 17 Pro nor the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max made it to global markets. They launched in China only. The Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra did launch globally, however. The same could happen this time around.
It’s also worth noting that both the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max are expected to include a rear display, much like their predecessors.
