When Google announced its AI Mode for Google Search and highlighted the arrival of AI search summaries, one thing that these summaries didn’t provide was first-hand experiences from other real people. The summaries certainly pull information from across the web, which can be derived from first-hand experiences, but the summaries aren’t actually listing them in full. That’s changing, as Google has just announced that it will now expand search summaries to include first-hand experiences from real people.
These results will come from various social media platforms across the web, and will essentially be like the links to responses you would see in the normal list of results below the AI search summaries. “Get advice from people who have been there,” Google’s blog post says. The general goal is to give people information that includes perspectives from public online discussions. Noting that people are increasingly seeking out advice from other users.
Google’s AI search summaries will include first-hand experiences from Reddit and other social platforms
Obviously, the main goal here is to get more people to use Google’s AI search tools. Google thinks that more people are likely to give them a shot if real responses from people in discussions about the search are included in the summary. And it might be right. Moving forward, Google will be including results from Reddit and other social platforms.
Google also says that it will be including more context to the links, such as names or handles associated with the person who gave the response listed. In addition to Reddit, responses from other users on sites like X or Facebook might pop up, or you could end up seeing quotes from people on forums related to your search.
AI search summaries will now include more links to relevant websites as well. Say you’re searching for information about food tours in Japan. The AI search summary would give you the same AI-based information it might give you now, but it also might now give you links to websites that help set up those tours.
